LumenScout
Privacy
The short version
LumenScout has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies. It does not collect or keep anything about you. Your places and settings stay in your browser, on your device.
Your location
LumenScout asks for your location only when you choose "Use my location". You can search for a place by name and never share it. To get a forecast, your browser sends the coordinates of the place you picked straight to the services listed below. LumenScout itself never receives them.
What is kept on your device
- The place you last looked at and the places you saved.
- Your units and theme.
- The last forecast, so the page still works without a connection.
- Terrain details for the places you looked at, so sunrise and sunset times load faster.
All of it lives in your browser's storage for this site. Clearing the site's data in your browser settings removes it.
Services your browser contacts
- Open-Meteo: the coordinates of the place, for the weather, smoke and haze, and terrain; and the text you type in the place search.
- BigDataCloud: the coordinates of the place, to turn them into a place name.
- Google Fonts: the typefaces on the page.
- The web host: the pages themselves.
- Tally: only if you choose "Send feedback". It receives what you type in the form, and your email address if you give one.
Like any website request, each of these shows the service your IP address. Each service handles it under its own privacy policy.
Feedback
The "Send feedback" form is hosted by Tally. What you write, and your email address if you add one, is used only to improve LumenScout and to reply to you. The email is optional.
Links you share
A link you share from LumenScout contains the place it shows, so anyone who opens it sees that place.
