What's new
October 4, 2026: LumenScout 1.0 is live
We hunt the light. You take the shot. LumenScout reads the weather forecast for any place on Earth and tells you, in one number, whether the sunrise, the sunset or the night sky is worth the trip. Here is what is in the first release.
One score for every kind of light
- Sunrise, sunset and night sky each get a score from 0 to 100 and a plain rating: Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent or Epic.
- Sunrise and sunset scores reward what makes a sky burn: high cloud to catch the color, a clear gap at the horizon to let the light through, and clean air.
- Night-sky scores weigh cloud, moonlight, humidity and wind, then cap the rating by how dark the sky is where you stand.
- Every score opens to show why it came out that way.
The next 24 hours
- A one-line answer leads the page: what is worth going out for, or when the next good light is.
- The next sunrise, sunset and dark sky each show their score, their time and when to be there.
- An hour-by-hour strip shows high, mid and low cloud, chance of rain, wind, fog and the moon.
A 10-day outlook you can trust the right amount
- Days are grouped by how far ahead they are: Decide (today and tomorrow), Evaluate (day 3) and Trend only (day 4 on).
- Opening a day shows its shooting notes, golden and blue hour times, cloud through the day and the full weather.
Built around where you shoot
- Sunrise and sunset times allow for the hills and mountains around you, so you know when the light really arrives.
- Shooting notes flag smoke and haze, incoming fronts, and cloud that forms over high ground.
- Sky darkness is estimated for any place, from city glow to truly dark sites.
- Search for a place or use your location, save your favorite spots, and share a link to any forecast.
Made for the field
- A Night theme keeps the screen dim and red to protect your night vision, alongside light and dark themes.
- Add LumenScout to your home screen and it opens like an app, with your last forecast available without a signal.
- No account, no ads and no tracking. Your places and settings stay on your device.
